In 2002 the North
Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists established a
scholarship to honor the memory of Jane Cox Hendrix, RN, RT
(R) who passed away in August. The purpose of the scholarship
is to aid student technologists.
Jane Cox received her x-ray training at Duke University
Medical Center and was active in the NCSRT, Inc. as President
of the Society and ASRT Counselor to North Carolina. She
was
employed by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
to teach x-ray physics in the late 40's. While there
she experimented with x-raying flowers using a superficial
therapy machine.
Her Shadowgraphs of flowers won national recognition
for an individual technical exhibit at the ASRT meeting
in San Francisco
in 1949. Her technique was printed in the 1953 ASRT Journal.
In addition, her work was exhibited at the State Art
Gallery in Raleigh and two of her prints went on world
tour with the
International Photography-in-Science Salon exhibit.
Jane was honored with Honorary membership in the NCSRT, Inc.
and in 1983 presented the Reeves-Rousseau lecture.
When Jane married William P. Hendrix she retired from
professional
life
and left a legacy of beauty for all to enjoy. The NCSRT, Inc.
has commissioned reprints of her flowers to be sold
in order to
fund the scholarship. Prints will be on sale at the
annual meeting in October.
Cash donations are greatly appreciated. |
